The Adams Family
Our Adams family have been traced back to Saffron Walden, Essex, England. Saffron Walden is located in NW Essex roughly 50 miles from London and it is set in a large rural area. This beautiful town is one of the finest preserved market towns, and is typically English.
It has a long and varied history and has been settled since prehistoric times. The town’s early prosperity (and name) was based on the production and trade of saffron; crocuses were cultivated on a wide scale in the area until the late 1700s. Then, as now, saffron was an extremely expensive commodity and the wealth it brought is evident all around the town.
My direct descendants lived in Saffron Walden for nearly 300 years, until eventually, my great great grandfather, George Adams, emigrated to Australia, where the family continues to prosper and grow.
